Variety is one of the aspects that I really enjoy about MMA and Jiu Jitsu. Everyone has their own unique perspective on how to do different moves. In today’s video I wanted to once again look at the Inside Trip but with a twist. In the video Marcos Avellan of FFA offers his take on the Inside Trip. Marcos is a great instructor that has a great teaching style and offers some great insights on applying wrestling and Jiu Jitsu into MMA.
What I like about Marcos’ variation of the inside trip is that he sets it up from the overhook. I like this set up a lot because it gives you options. With the over hook I can go for the inside trip or I can use the knee tap that Coach Alder taught us last month at 10th Planet Van Nuys.
I also like that Marcos focuses on the level change prior to inserting the trip. Coach Alder is showing us this method and it really helps with getting the trip in really deep. Marcos brings up a great point that you need to immediately grab the back of the calf. If you don’t do this it becomes very easy for your opponent to free his leg.
Again if you want to learn some more about this takedown or any other takedown please make sure you stop by the best MMA and BJJ gym in the San Fernando Valley 10th Planet Van Nuys.
